With producers like WORLD’S END PRESS, ROLAND TINGS, TORNADO WALLACE, ANDRAS FOX, OSCAR KEY SUNG (plus their collaborative project ANDRAS & OSCAR) and NO ZU, Melbourne has some of the most unique and exciting music coming out of Australia.

All of the above artists copped a reasonable amount of attention in 2014 (especially in the club and festival scene), but we think 2015 will be the year for the new quintet TOTAL GIOVANNI.

Providing us with a mixture of LCD SOUNDSYSTEM and ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI, the band released their first single ‘Human Animal’ only a month ago and have already tallied up over 1000 Facebook followers, which is pretty impressive considering it’s such an early stage in their career.

The first time I heard ‘Human Animal’ I was instantly hooked. It just sounded so fun, fresh and funky. Their second release ‘Can’t Control My Love’ is a smooth disco tune which is begging for some remix treatment.

With just two songs under their belt, TOTAL GIOVANNI have already secured some pretty serious bookings such as a show at Melbourne Music Week where they played with ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI, as well as sets at Tasmania’s Dark Mofo, Paradise and Golden Plains, which will take place in March next year. After watching a video they posted of their show at MMW recently, it’s clear the band have a tonne of energy on stage and I’m really looking forward to seeing them perform for the first time.

It’s fair to say we’ll get the opportunity to witness them play a lot more in 2015, as they just got signed to Australian touring agency UNDR ctrl, who also look after a long list of other Purple Sneakers favourites including BAG RAIDERS, LANCELOT, CANYONS, VAN SHE, WORDLIFE, OLYMPIC AYRES and many more. Do yourself a favour this summer; grab a cocktail and get your funk on with TOTAL GIOVANNI!
