Live Review: Watch Courtney Barnett Perform ‘Depreston’ Live On Ellen

17 March 2015 | 3:53 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

The poetic songstress that is Courtney Barnett has just made her Ellen debut, with a flawless and stunning rendition of her single 'Depreston'.

Despite basically everyone on the planet anticipating the release of her forthcoming album, COURTNEY BARNETT has been making incredible waves not only in Australia, but internationally too.

She’s played countless shows in the US and in Europe over the last year and a half, and Australia has even seen her come home for shows on more than one occasion. Despite her and the band constantly being on the road, she still manages to keep herself so cool and collected, and her music feels as authentic as ever.

Her debut LP ‘Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit’ is out on the 23rd of March, and I must admit that I’m more than excited for this one.

After being dubbed one of the greatest songwriters of this generation, COURTNEY takes her brand of slacker-rock to poetic extremes, particularly in her latest single, ‘Depreston’.

She’s over in the US at the moment for some pretty big opportunities, but I think the biggest one of all is her performance of ‘Depreston’ on Ellen.

The performance itself feels like home. If you’ve ever seen COURTNEY live, you’d understand the sense of warmth and authenticity she breeds into the crowd. She genuinely enjoys what she does, and it’s refreshing to experience that.

Her performance of ‘Depreston’ eloquently displays her knack for telling a story whilst keeping a sense of musical composure that almost seems perfect. Her vocals are flawless and the band are so tight.

There’s a reason that Ellen loves COURTNEY’s music so much, and it’ so cool to so obviously see that the rest of the world are embracing this Aussie songstress with open arms too.
