Artists to Watch in 2016: Marcus Whale

1 January 2016 | 10:00 am | Staff Writer

For anyone familiar with Marcus Whale, his newest release ‘If (Demo),’ released in early November, has offered up something fresh and exciting.

MARCUS WHALE should be a familiar name to many of you, but perhaps you haven’t seen it on its own. As a solo artist, Marcus Whale is indeed new to us, but for a new artist he is hardly a newbie.

In fact, he’s spent the last five years releasing music and playing gigs across the country. From the dark dance anthems of Black Vanilla, to the electro pop of Collarbones and the ambient sounds of Scissor Lock; Whale is no stranger to making music.

However, for anyone familiar with Marcus Whale and his earlier releases, his newest single ‘If (Demo),’ released in early November via the Good Manners team, has offered up something fresh and exciting. It'd be a comeback if he hadn't already been killing it in the space between solo releases.

‘If’ is a step away from typical dance music, but doesn’t totally abandon Whale’s dance roots. It also sees a return to the ambient, spacious sounds we saw from him as Scissor Lock and retains the dark, serious tones of Black Vanilla.

As a debut track ‘If’ is very promising indeed and as a teaser for what’s to come, it can’t help but excite. With the energy and drive of a new artist, the experience of a music veteran and his signature on-stage dramatics, we’re can’t wait to see more from Marcus Whale in 2016.
