New Zealand talent and all-in-all mystery man MATTHEW YOUNG has released another profoundly infectious single, simply called, ‘Hey’.

This new tune is Young’s second single offering of 2017 and follows on from the enthralling ‘Collect’, which graced our airwaves just a few months back. After nearly a year on hiatus, this seductive and intriguing retro shaded number instantly landed itself some loyal support and has been imprinted on the mind of many triple j listeners ever since.

‘Hey’ sees Matthew Young create new amalgamations of his sonic palette, emulating his trademark falsetto vocals and funk laden melodies while building lustrous sound beds with fresh instrumentation. Opening with surfy guitar chords, there’s a brief moment of construed pondering before being swept away by the song’s intoxicating chorus hook to be greeted by intense layers of sub-bass chords and offsetting steel-drum toned synths. These two diverging sections stack effortlessly atop of one another to create relaxed, grooving rhythms and effortlessly roll over the underlying R&B beats, glossing the song’s ingeniously modest structure to create this unique and highly polished stile of production.
