Electronic Music Conference unveils the first of a massive 2017 speaker line-up

5 October 2017 | 10:19 am | Emma Jones

Asia-Pacific's electronic music community is set to come together once more for the sixth ELECTRONIC MUSIC CONFERENCE (EMC), with the first speaker line-up of its 2017 edition announced this morning. Once again pulling out all the stops, this year's conference is already shaping up to be one of the best yet, with some almighty legends in the scene already locked in to deliver their wisdom come the last week of November.

None other than ANDREW WEATHERALL is leading the charge this year, confirmed to open the conference with a one-on-one conversation about his pioneering career - spanning 30 years - as one of the most legendary electronic artists there is, but it certainly doesn't stop there. With discussions on mental health helmed by DJ TIGERLILYZIGGY RAMO and Kučka's manager EVA TRIFONAS, a panel on cultural appropriation in Australian music featuring speakers Ngaiire and Thelma Plum, a discussion on "Conscious/Unconscious Gender Bias" lead by Brooke PowersAPRA AMCOS’ Jana GibsonPicnic Events’ Carly Roberts and Jungle’s Chloe Rickard and so much more, this year's EMC really does have something for every issue in our industry.

Tackling the rise of the festival, throwing parties in un-conventional spaces, activism in electronic music, the future of radio and even the demise of genres, EMC's speaker line-up is filled to the brim of exciting speakers ready to share their hot takes, as well as have some incredibly valuable discussions as well.

It still doesn't stop there though, as EMCPlay has also been confirmed to return this year, promising two nights of parties showcasing some of the most exciting up-and-coming electronic artists around. Applications for artists to showcase at EMCPlay open on Monday October 9 and close at midnight Sunday October 22. To apply, head to https://electronicmusicconference.com/emc-play.

This year's EMC is slightly different, with the option to pay for individual sessions at the conference starting at $25 ex gst, or you can go all out with a full conference pass for $219 ex gst. There's still plenty of announcements to come, but tickets are on sale now, so don't delay. This year will see EMC being held at Giant DwarfCake Wines Cellar Door and The Work-Shop, Redfern for the first time in 2017; while EMCPlay sees labels, curators and party throwers take over select venues across RedfernChippendale and Broadway, and Musica Copa closing the week on Friday December 1 at the KIKOFF Soccer Centre in Marrickville.

We're excited to be partnering with EMC once again for what is already shaping up to be a brilliant week. For full speaker details, see below or head here.
