Live Review: Christopher Port explores UK Garage for a special guest mix

10 November 2017 | 11:41 am | Emma Jones

Just a few weeks ago, CHRISTOPHER PORT released a new EP that is arguably his most diverse, experimental, and intricate work yet, titled Everything In Quotes "DARK". Building on the foundations laid down from his debut EP, Vetements, released last year, PORT dived deeper into his affinity for dark, moody electronica and his rich, UK garage influences, mixed with a bit of rave-era sounds to craft an enthralling four-track EP that keeps you guessing and moving throughout.

A joint release between Pieater and Future ClassicEverything In Quotes "DARK" is an ambitious and challenging release, but also one that Port pulls off in spectacular fashion, further proving why he's one of the country's most exciting and innovative producers. With each track, the complexity and intricacy of his work becomes more and more evident, and each listen unveils a little bit more of just how much he's working with. From the absolute banger in the lead single, 'Nobody Chose You', to the eerie 'Baby It's Not My Will'; the pulsing, unpredictable nature of 'Raver VIP' to the closer, 'Uppers', Everything In Quotes "DARK" is a triumphant release from start to finish.

Now, we're big fans of Christopher Port here, so we're very excited to have him back on our show on FBi Radio for a guest mix. He whipped us into a frenzy with a mix last year, and now he's back to do it again. According to Port himself, he said this mix is "a bunch of my favourite UK Garage tracks. Some older, some newer. Some on vinyl, some not. All at 130 BPM," and the results are just as brilliant as you might expect. Clocking in at just under half an hour, Port explores the genre that inspires him so much in all its glory, painting a pretty clear picture of what it is about UK garage that brings him so much joy.
