Artists to Watch in 2018: Love Deluxe
One artist to emerge in 2017 that we simply cannot get enough of is LOVE DELUXE. Signed to SOOTHSAYER, the production wizard creates music that sounds not from this time, yet entirely futuristic. It transports you to another world, but makes you feel entirely at home as well. It sounds global but also perfectly intimate, and it’s because of this that we’re expecting big things still to come from him in this new year.
After the release of his debut single, ‘Cool Breeze Over The Mountains’, took us to the runways of Milan in the 80s, all the way through to the release of his debut EP, Silk Mirage, we’ve been hanging onto every note from this retro-disco king as he weaves intricate masterpieces of nostalgia-infused, forward-thinking disco, house and more. This EP also featured a remix by Mount Liberation Unlimited, with the Swedish duo improvising over the chords and main line of the original to a different side to Love Deluxe. Keeping with the retro vibes, the cover art that accompanied his releases further amplified this with his aesthetic, adding to the ability to transport listeners into the world of Love Deluxe.
Following this, a remix from the legend, Marquis Hawkes, thrust Love Deluxe‘s sounds into new fans across the world, and consequently has seen the buzz around him grow louder and louder. Although his live performances have been few and far between, the word is that this is equally as impressive as his record is, and we can only hope there will be plenty more opportunities to see him in action in 2018.
What makes us so excited about Love Deluxe is, although his music is a love letter to the 80’s and early 90’s, it’s so much more than just a tribute. It’s his addition to that rich sonic tapestry that existed in that time, and instead of copying the style, Love Deluxe created his own. He’s more than a tribute band, he’s the modern personification of that time, and creates music that respectfully highlights the glory of the by-gone eras while maintaining a unique approach that makes his music sound entirely his own. His EP remains on heavy rotation, so we have our fingers firmly crossed for more Love Deluxe in the very near future!
