Live Review: Feki & Olivia Reid's 'Don't Doubt' is a shining music moment
It's the way Feki fuses the tender with the triumphant in 'Don't Doubt' that gives the song its staying power, and Olivia Reid's performance amplifies that.
It might not be easy, but it can be predictable to write a sad song. Sad songs tend to be more nuanced and thereby relate to a larger range of people. Melancholy and hopelessness are emotions we all go through, and emotions that tend to feel a little stronger than their more positive counterparts. However, that hasn't stopped FEKI from giving us a gleaming dance music moment in 'Don't Doubt', and he's tapped the right help in OLIVIA REID to do it.
While electronic music is a place where positivity can really thrive, it has seldom been done in the way Feki does here. By showing incredible restraint and pulling back just as much as he needs to, the glowing synths that pulsate throughout the song fill you with a radiant warmth. The verses float along with Olivia Reid's airy yet sturdy voice steering the way, before propelling into the air for that soaring, glistening chorus. It's a track that will have you on your feet with a smile from cheek to cheek as it's an ode to self-confidence like we've never had before.
