Live Review: Oliver Tank begins a new chapter with 'Make Believe'

22 June 2018 | 1:13 pm | Emma Jones

It's been a minute since we've heard from OLIVER TANK. Making his long awaited return last year with his debut album, OT, in April, the producer has been relatively quiet apart from a few incredible remixes (a SOLANGE remix!!!) over the past few months, however it seems that's about to change.

Taking to social media last week to share a new single titled 'Make Believe', Tank told fans, "I made this track towards the end of last year. It marks a new beginning for me in many ways. I’ll be releasing new music monthly for the foreseeable future and I’m working towards a new EP later in the year." Honing in on his incredible skills for creating other-worldly soundscapes, Tank's 'Make Believe' confirmed the wait was absolutely worth it.

An immersive experience, 'Make Believe' makes you want to dive right in as his atmospherics and synths swirl around you. Gentle, soft vocals carry the song just enough without ever breaking through completely as Tank simply utilises this as another element in his soundscape. Muted thuds and carefully placed beats softly pierce the peaceful incantations, while the synths begin to swell and envelope your mind.

Sounding like falling but in a way that's careful and considered without any fear, Tank's 'Make Believe' really does sound like the starting point for this next chapter for the artist. Clearly having taken some time to reevaluate and reflect, Tank has emerged with an absolutely glorious new song that we're hoping is indicative of what's to come - and judging from his social media post, there's plenty left to hear.
