‘Muscle Memory’ is the newest and possibly most sultry single to date from LA-based Aussie BANOFFEE (aka Martha Brown).

‘Muscle Memory’ is the newest and possibly most sultry single to date from LA-based Aussie BANOFFEE (aka Martha Brown). This track arrives as the artist’s first release since her SOPHIE co-produced tune ‘RIPE’ back in 2017 and clearly showcases the evolution of Brown’s technical skills in production as well as a newfound maturity that may be a byproduct of her continental leap to the US last year. Just FYI, she has been absolutely slaying the LA scene since then, appearing alongside big names such as SOPHIE, HTML flowers, l8loomer and Charli XCX just to name a few…

Remaining true to Banoffee’s trademark highly textured, saturated poppy vibes, ‘Muscle Memory’ blends the mechanical with the ethereal with an artist's toolbox that sees drone synths and snappy snares sitting side by side with echoing pipes and otherworldly vocals.

The lyrics of the tune itself focus on the physical turmoil that is experienced during a breakup, rather than the emotional. In her own words, Banoffee explains that the song was written about “the feeling of when u touch someone and suddenly remember every point of contact you’ve ever had with that person”.

It’s an interesting, unusual yet relatable theme for what is essentially an unconventional, modern love song- one that focuses on the external rather than the internal, reminding it’s listeners of the importance of physical touch in relationships. If 'Muscle Memory’ can serve as any indication of where Banoffee is headed with her future work, fans can be sure to expect a real treat that is sonically intelligent, dark, honest and sweet as, well, banoffee pie... Fingers crossed for more releases before the year is out!
