Live Review: PREMIERE: Vive La Void gives Lowtide's 'Window' a hauntingly dreamy new take

7 November 2018 | 10:26 am | Caitlin Medcalf

Earlier this year, Melbourne's LOWTIDE dropped their highly anticipated Southern Mind LP. Marked by immersive sequences, soaring melodies & defined by its effortless dream-like state, it reached critical acclaim very quickly.

Fast forward a couple of months, and the group have announced the release of a remix EP to accompany this one, Southern Mind Remixed. Born out of a joint love of unique experimentation, this remix EP transcends the codes of the original release and extends the ideas and sounds to totally new boundaries. It's Lowtide like you've never heard them before, and it's all thanks to Ulrich SchnaussVive La Void (Sanae Yamada/Moon Duo)Josefin Ohrn and The LiberationLost Horizons (Simon Raymonde of Cocteau Twins + Richie Thomas formerly of Jesus and Mary Chain) and Black Cab, taking this one on a predominantly guitar-heavy journey.

We're excited today to be premiering the VIVE LA VOID remix of the group's track 'Window'.

Where the original is lush, harmonic and teeming with post-rock instrumentals, Vive La Void's take adds a new dimension of bass and electronic distortion whilst still keeping that same dreamy tone Lowtide brought to the original.

The remix is successful in that it compliments the original without taking away the important elements that made it memorable in the first place. Vive La Void has worked to make it subtly complimentary, but taking it into a realm of electronica that feels beautiful.

There's an undulating melodic line in there ebbing and flowing with the splash of the percussion which really epitomises the high-points in the original.

Vive La Void's contribution to this remix EP is beautiful, brooding and encapsulates every aspect of what makes the original so haunting, but in the best way possible.

Lowtide's Southern Mind Remixed EP is out tomorrow, November 9 digitally and on an extremely limited hot pink 12”. The band will be launching the remix EP in Melbourne on November 30.
