PS Selected: Human Movement, Sama', UNIIQU3 & more

21 December 2018 | 4:20 pm | Holly O'Neill

Welcome back to our weekly segment where we pluck our favourite mixes from all over the web and the world, bundle em together and call it PS Selected. Whether it was whipped up last week or last year, if it’s worth listening to it’s bound to be featured as we trek through the hours and hours of quality mixes uploaded across the net.

In a week usually dedicated to "Best Of" lists, it's business as usual here at PS Selected as we bring you our favourite selections from MORGAN HISLOP, SAMA', HUMAN MOVEMENT, UNIIQU3, NUESTRO PLANETA party crew featuring DJ ATRO.

With the release of her debut EP PHASE 3 UNIIQU3 proved that she's a dance force to be reckoned, jacking her energetic production and punchy flows to the extreme. But incase you needed even more proof, she dropped a huge mix to celebrate the release packed with plenty of her own tracks, a few jersey staples, and plenty of bass heavy rap flips. In a little under an hour, guaranteed she'll have you bouncing off the walls with her contagious energy.

What do you think of when you think of Palestine? Years of historic conflict or...Techno music? Boiler Room streamed its first ever party live from Ramallah, featuring the powerful sounds of scene leader Sama'. Credited as one of the first DJ's to bring the sounds of Detroit and Berlin to the locals, expect driving bass lines and heavy kicks across her commanding hour. Have a peep at Boiler Room's doco on the Palestinian underground music scene for even more context into how these DJ's and producers are demolishing pre-stablished borders with the power of the dance floor identity.

London producer/graphic designer/radio host/slash collector Morgan Hislop released one of my favourite dance music EPs this year, Watch As My Ceramics Crumble. He draws inspiration from house, vogue and footwork with the whole release coloured by energetic percussion and twee sound design. His mix for The Selector is no different as he packs a little under an hour with bright oddball house, featuring maximal chords, choppy sampling and that consistent four to the floor kick.

Earlier this year Sydney boys Human Movement were a part of the monster house music festival Defected Croatia. Their mix, recorded live from Tisno, Croatia, is two hours of thoughtful party selections full of the peaks and valleys that dream sets are made of. From the euphoric hands up moments of percussion heavy breakdowns and nostalgic samples to the side-stepping, head-bopping of subtly shifting loops, this mix is a genre spanning, full body experience.

Melbourne party Nuestro Planeta describes itself as "a party is for fems, queers, rap fans and their true allies" but I would describe it as Big Fun. On episode 4 of their Skylab Radio show they invite Sydney deck wizard DJ Atro for a cheeky hour following their own mixed bag of a set. How do you follow an hour of every kind of grime, rap, dancehall, UK funky, moombahton, 2-step imaginable? With a second serve, of course.
