PS Selected: Yaeji, Nina Las Vegas, Emma Stevenson & more

Welcome back to a weekly segment where we pluck our favourite mixes from all over the web and the world, bundle em together and call it PS Selected. Whether it was whipped up last week or last year, if it’s worth listening to it’s bound to be featured as we trek through the hours and hours of quality mixes uploaded across the net.

This week we’ve got all tempos covered with mixes from MATKA, ROZA TERENZI & EMMA STEVENSON, SG LEWIS, YAEJI and NINA LAS VEGAS. From woozy ambient drifting to the frenzied bpm’s of footwork and everything in between, lets get into the big five you’ve gotta hear this week.

Electronica as a genre is pretty broad, but on Roza Terenzi‘s monthly slot for Skylab Radio she manages to distil her unique take on its history through femme and GNC producers and musos into a tight hour. Joined by Emma Stevenson in the second half of the show, the two pay tribute to their fav fellow ladies and take us from experimental compositions and lowkey ambient soundscapes all the way through to driving club and dense techno.

If you’re ready to get your hips moving hit play on Matka‘s latest mix for Triple J‘s The Kick On. The Melbourne DJ co-curates Melbourne party PRECOG, a hub for forward thinking club communities to gather and celebrate their strengths, and is a champion of melding world and club music across her sets. In this mix she pulls out her best selections of dancehall, afrobeats and a sprinkling of UK funky for a tight half hour that’ll get you dancing.

After an international move from her hometown of Sydney to the club fusion capital London, Nina Las Vegas seems to be absolutely thriving. In her latest mix for NTS she’s in her element, blending her niche rap selections with an oddball club energy. Nina dials the tempo back but keeps the vibes high for an hour of baille funk, lowkey club and a bunch of her own label’s own forward thinking releases.

In order to properly capture the energy of a night out across three records in his ‘Dusk’ ‘Dark’ ‘Dawn’ trilogy, SG Lewis had to do some hands on research. Talking to Dummy Mag he confessed “I found myself going out more than usual (for purely professional reasons, of course…)” and that he rediscovered a few throwback club gems along the way as well as falling in love with some new ones. Expect all of those housey selections plus a few of his own tracks in this funky hour, a soundtrack to a night out you’d never dream of missing.

In Yaeji‘s mix for Blowing Up The Workshop, we get that classic blend of dreamy experimental tracks, upbeat house and jittery footwork that only she can deliver, but with a twist. Through her “Karaoke Mix” she improvises her signature ASMR style vocals over some of her favourite tracks. “Imagining how a track could evolve or transform by adding my voice became almost like a habit to me.” she says of her mix “I could (imaginatively) collaborate with all my favourite producer heroes in my own little way”.
