Artists to Watch in 2019: Freda & Jackson

Sydney legends FREDA & JACKSON are equally talented in their own rights. Both are arguably leading force in this new generation of both musicians and DJ’s across town who are not only putting down some careful curations, but are also cultivating a community culture too.

Kicking it off a couple of years back, the pair have been building a presence putting tunes out with Jackson‘s imprint Moonshoe Records, an appropriate home for their fresh take on house, down-tempo grooves. They’ve also got an energetic live show down pat, with Freda on the drum kit, Jackson on synth & controls and more recently enlisting their pal Josh Reeves to guest on percussion.

They regularly kick it across town, DJing sounds from all corners of the electronic music spectrum with ease. From jazzy cuts to infectious disco and intricate breakbeat to their signature style of house, their DJ set is something to be reckoned with and is the perfect space for the pair to exercise the immense musical knowledge they share.

Their next foray comes in the form of an EP, titled Freda & Jackson EP. This one will call itself home with Ken Oath Records, a local label run by DJ Earl GreyGreville.

Featuring four sultry cuts, we can hear from the previews above that this one’s going to be chockers with heavy basslines, spacious melodies and some incredibly well-cut breaks. With Ken Oath Records recommending this as ‘some of the duo’s finest material yet’, you can expect this one to be out on January 25.

Kicking off the year with a bang and some beautiful new material, it’s going to be a good one for Freda & Jackson.
