Live Review: Belt out the words to AURORA's 'Animal' while you watch the new clip

28 January 2019 | 3:34 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

The best part about the continuing evolution of pop music is just how much the intensity of every sonic and visual output has become. AURORA out of Norway is embodying all aspects of emotional pop, creating tracks that are both poignant and stirring, and backing it up with the same sense of power in other mediums too.

Her clip for 'Animal' is just that, powerful and stirring.

The track is the first of a few we can expect in 2019, and what a way to kick it off. It's powerfully theatrical, with her vocals carefully mapping out the bones of the track in the verses, and then using the choruses to absolutely belt out the emotional fury hiding away.

The clip is as theatrical as the track itself, featuring Aurora performing fluid choreography both inside and outside the club. The low lighting accentuates the intensity of the scenario and makes the bright reds and blues of the scarce light in the clip really pop.

With a bunch of releases and a big year still to come from Aurora, she really sums it all up best, saying:

“I spend a lot of time thinking about humans. And I wanted to make a song wrapped in a blanket of obliviousness whilst speaking the wonderful and horrible truth that I see in us.

We are always thriving for something. If it’s love, money, sex, success, power or just a bigger piece of a delicious chocolate cake. It’s very interesting. It's grotesque. It’s beautiful. We are always hunting for something. We are animals hunting for animals."
