Live Review: PREMIERE: Nocturnal Dolphin & NinetyFour meld minds on 'The Children'

2 April 2019 | 10:30 am | Caitlin Medcalf

Sydney producer Andrew Fraser AKA NOCTURNAL DOLPHIN's been chipping away at producing for a hot minute now. At the start of the year, he put out his EP Intergalactic Ocean Groove which was drenched in lucid soundscapes ready for you to take a dip into.

He's proving that slowing down is not an option by today dropping a massive new one, and he's teamed up with fellow Sydney producer NinetyFour to do it. 'The Children' is the name of this brooding collab, and here at Purple Sneakers, we're stoked to say we've got the first taste of it right here.

Kicking off with a deep hum of the keys and a driving tambourine, the chime of the keys comes creeping in, sitting eerily atop this shadowed atmosphere. Right from the start, the depth of the track is captivating and instantly draws you in.

As the mood builds, the tech house percussive silently makes its way to the forefront of the track, eventually taking the lead on the pace of the track. Drawing elements of inspiration from a multitude of genres like tech house, melodic techno and minimal, the track brings together shades of sounds to take you on this journey.

Nocturnal Dolphin and NinetyFour coming together for this one has brought out the best in one another creatively. Both producers work hard to take you thorough various shades and moods, and the result is something you can dance to at the peak of the night, or listen to in solitude and come out the other side feeling whole.
