Live Review: Sit by the 'hotel pool' with Teischa

28 June 2019 | 11:32 am | Caitlin Medcalf

Los-Angeles-via-Fremantle's Teischa returns today with 'hotel pool', and a beautiful lo-fi B-side to accompany it in 'we try'.

Los-Angeles-via-Fremantle's TEISCHA has long been captivating us with her hauntingly charming brand of downtempo pop. Last year's 'Haunt Me' grabbed our attention with its emotionally charged lyrical content, and incredibly cinematic clip to match.

She returns today with her fourth single, and a cheeky lil easter egg of a track to accompany it too. 'hotel pool', produced by Lucianblomkamp, pieces together future soul, downtempo-electronica and tops it all off with her heavily commanding vocal presence.

Pieced together by the threads of her imagination, 'hotel pool' is a snapshot in time of Teischa's first weeks in the USA. Of the track, Teischa said:

"This track was kind of a diary entry to myself about my first impressions of LA. I wrote it after a brutally hot summers day out at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood (which is definitely not my vibe), as I was sitting poolside, people watching and creating this little love story in my head about the contrasts of the city. How it can allow you to feel so comfortable and at home in moments, feeling truly yourself, then so out of place, vulnerable and alone the next minute. I felt so awkward at this pool I couldn’t even get into my bathers to have a swim in the 40 degree heat. Instead, I just sat there getting drunk off overpriced cocktails and watching everyone’s fake tans being washed off in the chlorine."

'hotel pool' is accompanied by B-side 'we try', a vocal-driven, lo-fi ditty reminscent of Jake Bugg's 'Fire'.
