The Gate Warehouse Launch

9 November 2011 | 4:19 pm | Staff Writer

The Gate is a not-for-profit initiative that is looking out for live local music from Sydney's North Shore right through to the Western Suburbs.

Believe it or not, we didn't all start out watching bands you haven't even heard of in underground warehouse spaces in the trendy Inner West.  Not all bands met in an art collective in Prahran before moving to Soho to record in an organic pine loft.  To reference the current economic state - the kids that grew up in the burbs, loitering at Westfield's food courts and having to trek to see bands in "the city" are the 99%.  The Gate is a not-for-profit initiative that is looking out for live local music from Sydney's North Shore right through to the Western Suburbs.

We're not talking your brothers shit punk band at the local PCYC either, The Gate have hosted the likes of Seekae, The Paper Scissors, Guerre and heaps more across a variety of their "venues."  It began in a Ryde backyard, expanded out into Pablo's in Epping and this weekend is launching a new warehouse space in Artarmon.  To test out the new venue this Friday is Aleks & The Ramps, Charge Group, Valar and N. Martin who will all play live amazing music into the wee hours without having to worry about waking the neighbours.
