Live Review: LISTEN: Tanlines 'Brothers'

31 January 2012 | 6:00 pm | Staff Writer

We think ‘Brothers’ from their forthcoming album Mixed Emotions, is the best song TANLINES have recorded to date. Listen in to hear why...

I tend to associate songs with different parts of my life; call it nostalgia if you wish. Whether it is reminding you of someone, some place or simply giving you a taste of something to come. But what I feel is the best nostalgia of all – is when I hear something completely new and I am taken back…as if, I was waiting for this song the whole time.

Introducing TANLINES. A New York electronic duo made up of Eric Emm and Jesse Cohen. TANLINES are quite the opposite of being new to the scene and have always been a great party band, but now you’ll want to spend just as much quality time with them on your headphones.  With the release of ‘Brothers’ from their forthcoming album Mixed Emotions, TANLINES put the focus back on their music with the best song they’ve recorded to date.

'Brothers' is a moody, animated track comprised of warm synths and a whole earful of that nostalgia I was discussing earlier.  It’s totally danceable, yet completely listenable.  Eric’s vocals tread in the perfect range and are just so idiosyncratic. The duo said in a recent interview that this song is a good indication of where they’re at now, and its about life and making mistakes… if that’s the case, keep making mistakes boys - it’s doing wonders for your music.

Chuck on your headphones for this one and take a deep breath. Life’s good.
