Live Review: LISTEN: Howling Rabbits 'Demos 2012'

20 February 2012 | 9:00 am | Staff Writer

HOWLING RABBITS combines the best parts of The Horrors with the sound of Kasabian and still manages to bring something new to the table.

At first glance, Brisbane band HOWLING RABBITS look like five unassuming guys having fun and making sweet, sweet music together. After opening Eight Miles High Festival at The Zoo last year in a performance acclaimed by FasterLouder, it would be safe to say they’re anything but. If you’re looking for a band that combines the best parts of The Horrors with the sound of Kasabian and still manages to bring something new to the table (other than skinny jeans), look no further: I’ve done all the hard work for you.

HOWLING RABBITS describe their sound as stompy psychedelic rock but mere constructs like “genre” are rendered irrelevant by their trademark high octane live shows. The charisma of the band, combined with their infectious sound, make fans of those encountering their music for the first time, and friends of those who already know and love their unique blend of classic rock and alternative sound.

As HOWLING RABBITS slowly but steadily push towards the Triple J Unearthed charts, they’re playing alongside fellow psych rockers Grand Atlantic; be sure to check them out at a show near you to understand all the fuss about their energetic live shows.
