REVIEW: Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! - Goodgod Small Club 25/02/12

Review of Adelaide five-piece Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!'s performance at Goodgod Small Club on 25 February 2012.

FIRE! SANTA ROSE, FIRE! are reaping the benefits of their damn hard work. The Adelaide five-piece have been touring almost nonstop since they started up in 2006. Through their combination of solid melodies and the powerful vocal work of Caitlin Duff, they’ve managed to stay at the forefront of the Australian indie music scene.

Practice makes perfect, and these finely-tuned (and mighty good-looking) music-making machines are certainly indicative of that. Like hybrid musical babe robots programmed to smash out their back catalogue, they played highlights from all three previous works alongside tracks from their second full-length album, expected later this year.

After playing Homebake, Parklife, Laneway, and Big Day Out, they dominated the tiny Goodgod Small Club stage.  Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! are a talented band that have mastered their craft, but with the indie music scene flooded with powerful female leads (think The Jezabels, Austra, Stonefields, etc.), it would be a shame to see Fire! Santa Rosa Fire! get lost in the ether. They didn’t interact with the crowd much, which detracted from the excitement of seeing such a good Australian band live.

If Panther Shrine is anything to go by, this band from Adelaide looks sure to continue gaining popularity and tour like absolute Trojans.
