Live Review: LISTEN: Neon Indian 'Hex Girlfriend (Twin Shadow Remix)'

Opening with a bizarre swirl of rudimentary synth sounds and then exploding in to a straight-up synth-pop track, ‘Hex Girlfriend’ was already a standout track from NEON INDIAN’s latest LP Era Extraña. TWIN SHADOW, putting his own spin on the track while retaining its original spirit, reinvigorates this already excellent song.

Doing away with the electronic opening, Twin Shadow instead opts for a dreamy organ-backed glo-fi style intro, and then bringing Alan Palomo’s verses in with a jangly drum pattern. A few added string instruments and less predominant synth parts move the remixed track slightly further away from its synth-pop roots, but not so far as to completely transform the track’s original style.

The result? A deliciously energetic, catchy piece of synth-pop.
