Live Review: LISTEN: The Griswolds ‘Mississippi’

8 March 2012 | 10:00 am | Staff Writer

The Griswolds, from Australia, have released their debut 'Mississipi', with influences like Vampire Weekend and Cold War Kids.

With probably one of the best band names ever, THE GRISWOLDS begin their debut track ‘Mississippi’ with soft, tinkering strings, giving the reverb-soaked vocals a real opportunity to sound like a delicious indie choir.

Lyrics like “I wont fall in love with you this time/ I refuse to give it up to you this time,” ring true to pretty much everyone who has ever been through heartbreak, and acts as a sunny anthem for getting over that messy old break up. The pounding percussion encourages you to march on with life, while dreamy synths allow you to lose yourself in the pretty track.

The Griswolds sound a little bit like Vampire Weekend mixed with Cold War Kids, an influential marriage which seems to be working quite well. Once heard, this song will make you sit up off your lounge, slam down that box of Favourites that you've been nursing for the past three months, throw off your crusty dressing gown and realize that there is life after heartbreak.
