Live Review: STREAM: M. Ward 'A Wasteland Companion'

5 April 2012 | 11:46 am | Hannah Story

Get your indie folk on this Easter long weekend with M. Ward's newest album- in stores tomorrow! What a Good Friday it will be.

Sure you could wait until tomorrow to get your grubby little fingers on M. WARD’s latest solo expedition, A Wasteland Companion. Alternately you could go to The Music right now and take a listen HERE to their exclusive stream.

Here’s the first single, ‘Primitive Girl.’ It’s a joyful little folk track with a similar sound to his previous stuff with Monsters of Folk and the divine Zooey Deschanel in She & Him. The primitive girl in the song may not need him, but I do, I do, I do. And Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes plays the organ. Everyone loves songs with organ!

Ward’s voice is always soothing. A Wasteland Companion is the kind of album you lie down in bed listening to on a lazy autumn afternoon. Although it may still be too warm to be snuggling up under a doona with a pretty boy just yet, you can still listen to pretty tunes with a pretty boy (like M. Ward) and pretend that it’s you, not Zooey Deschanel providing female backing vocals on ‘Sweetheart.’ Unwind, people. The four-day weekend is just around the corner.
