REVIEW: Parachute Youth, Beach Road Hotel 16.05.12

Parachute Youth are those two guys you wish you were. Check out Mikayla Couch's review of their gig at the Beach Road to see what you missed

Wednesday night saw PARACHUTE YOUTH at the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi and fuck, did they bring the party. A vivid memory of quality fist pumps, arms in the air, shuffling drunken feet and killer electronic beats; it was honestly better than I expected.

To this day, never have I seen the Beach Road Hotel so packed. Since the release of 'Can’t Get Better Than This,' the general consensus has been “that song fucking kicks ass man!” Whether sneakily inserted in a DJ set on Saturday night, a ringtone that seems to follow you around, or your best friend humming along with it stuck in their head because Triple J plays it on repeat, you can not escape the phenomenon.

True to form, Parachute Youth produced a suite of chunky, thumping electronic beats. The venue was at full tilt- no bums on seats, no feet not rocking, no beefed up muscle guy NOT loving his share of Parachute Youth. The set was a cacophony of synthetic, rhythmic fuzz, and boy, were "The Youths" proud to be playing at home. Simply killer, the show got a gold medal as these two guys outperformed themselves and everyone left with a smile.

By the end, we all knew what was coming and by George, did we all go absolutely fucking mental! We all united to a chorus line of 'Can’t Get Better Than This.' The tension, sweat and swagger increased to astronomical levels and we all chanted along. Lead Singer Matt K Von even stopped singing for two verses because he knew we had his back. Nobody cared because they loved the song so much, so much so they continued and sang the song twice!

All in all, the sweatbox of a dance-floor and even getting punched in the face by an avid fist pumper, was worth delving through. A two-piece definitely worth seeing; the song says it all.
