TOP FIVES: Namine

24 May 2012 | 10:30 am | Staff Writer

Musically gifted people are the best people to give advice and tell stories about music, and experiences with it, so here's Namine.

Itching to get in on the PURPLE SNEAKERS Top Fives action NAMINE sat down and went pretty in depth with many of his choices. It's nice to know from someone musically talented why they like the sounds they like.

Top 5....

GIGS ATTENDED:

The Used, Rod Lover Arena, 2005.

I think this was the first time I realised I loved music. I may have cried when Bert did his thing on "The Taste of Ink" but my memory is a little foggy. R.I.P to that era of everyone's lives.

Deadmau5, Creamfields, 2011.

Say what you will about commercial electro, but that dude put on one of the hugest shows I have ever seen. Also don't say anything about commercial electro, I love Deadmau5.

3. AraabMuzik, Hudson Mohawke, Balam Acab & Rustie, Roxanne Parlour, 2012.

Catching my four favourite boundary-pushing producers in one night was pretty special. Kind of just one big "Phwoar", really.

4. Cut Copy, Palace Theatre, 2011.

I passed out from dehydration during "Need You Now". It was very cinematic, very emotional. Nice.

5. Kanye West, Splendour In The Grass, 2011.

If you've seen Kanye...you know.

PLACES TO GO FOR A NIGHT OUT IN MELBOURNE/AUSTRALIA/THE WORLD:

Favela Rock

The best place to do this all night |_(ツ)_|.

Liberty Social

Always dark, always murky, never inviting.

New Guernica

I feel old and alienated here, which I get a kick out of.

Mercat Basement

Not as smoky as Liberty Social, but slightly more inviting.

CANT SAY

All of my asshole friends are here every friday. Shout outs.

MUSIC/ENTERTAINMENT WEBSITES (apart from Purple Sneakers of course!):

SONGS TO LOSE YOUR VIRGINITY TO:

Girl Talk - "Oh No"

I actually lost my virginity to this song. I don't know if I'd recommend it but hey if you're feeling adventurous or whatever, fuck it.

Keith Sweat - "Nobody"

If you're only doing it to R. Kelly, you need to do your homework.

Hudon Mohawke - "Oops (Oh My!)"

If your first time was as smooth as this, then you have a bright future ahead of you.

Cocteau Twins - "Cherry-Colored Funk"

On some real cute puppy love shit.

Waka Flocka Flame - "Head First"

Just do what he says, I guess

PLACES YOU’VE WOKEN UP AFTER A BIG NIGHT OUT:

1. My Bed

2. Tom Anderson's Bungalow

3. The room of someone I had a crush on

4. The room of someone Tom Anderson had a crush on

5. My Bed, except I can hear God screaming "YOLO".
