Live Review: LISTEN: Friends 'Home'

9 June 2012 | 3:00 pm | Staff Writer

With killer tracks 'I'm His Girl' and 'Friend Crush', band Friends continue their irresistibly infectious indie-pop sounds with 'Home'.

This is certainly a controversial name to utter on an indie music blog, but it's fair to say that Samantha Urbani's voice in this tune is very much reminding me of Nelly Furtardo's. But I don't think that's a bad thing – Furtado's vocals are unique and pimping, in my opinion. If I'm being honest. Which I am.

FRIENDS are really good at making quality, irresistibly infectious indie-pop. This is the 3rd song of theirs I've heard, and once again, I'm hooked. The lyrics are uncomplicated but resonate, as they're about feelings we can all relate to. As with Triple J fave 'I'm His Girl' and 'Friend Crush', the lyrical content of 'Home' is simple and honest, delivered with a dose of unpretentious but sassy 'tude from Urbani.

Almost flamenco-inspired percussives in this latest single get under your skin. And I'm just going to put it out there – they're a very attractive band. I'm pretty keen to get to their Splendour sideshow at the Northcote Social as it might be a rare opportunity to hear them in such an intimate setting before they explode.
