Live Review: WATCH: Jacob Pearson Live @ Sofar Sounds Sydney

Sofar Sounds: a global movement creating superbly intimate gigs with some of the best up and coming artists, in the homes of volunteers.

Stripping back to the bare essentials of a gig, all that’s required is an artist willing to take an audience on a journey & an audience attentive enough to be taken along. Sofar Sounds is a global movement committed to doing just that, creating a series of superbly intimate gigs held in the homes of volunteers who don’t mind 80 odd fellow music lovers invading their living rooms for a night of musical wonder, from some of the best names in upcoming artists & bands.

Originating in London, Sofar Sounds has now spread its intensely intimate gigs into the living rooms of Sydney. On Friday the 11th of May I had the pleasure of attending my very first Sofar Sounds experience located in a dusty art studio in Sydney's inner west suburb of Newtown. I got to play witness to the most incredible array of artists including JACOB PEARSON, GENTLEMEN & VAGABONDS, CHRIS NETO and LEADER CHEETAH, in an environment that just oozed the love of music. You can check out JACOB PEARSON below.

The sickly sweet serenading sounds that PEARSON audaciously creates were  the perfect way to kick-off the lusciously intimate night that was. Ukulele in hand, his spine tinglingly unique sound fondled with the hearts & minds of the melting crowd. Brewing up a captivating array of both original tracks from his debut EP Crumbs of the Rendezvous, along with a hauntingly, soul unravelling rendition of ‘Tonight, You Belong to Me’ (a mystery song that nobody quite knows the ownership of but which can supposedly be traced back to the 1920s).
