Charli XCX describes her style as “Wednesday Adams meets Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice meets Baby Spice”, clearly shining through in this video

Charlotte Aitchison AKA CHARLI XCX hails from the UK where many artists are adding toppings of indie, experimental and electronic to their juicy pop pizzas.

Her new single/clip ‘You’re the One’ has just been released off her debut EP of the same title. CHARLI describes her style as “Wednesday Adams meets Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice meets Baby Spice” and this clearly shines through in her latest video

Set in a warehouse and featuring mini lollipop-goths (that ‘I’m wearing dark makeup and black outfits to express my attitude but I’m still cute and I like pink” look) the clip is a brooding teenager’s dream. She mixes it up with three costume changes (minor for a female pop artist) seeming to channel Effie from Skins minus the bitch and possibly the skank. Alright so I’ll rephrase that to a ‘splash’ of Effie.

“I love hyperrealism in every aspect of what I do,” CHARLI says. “I make my lyrics as strong and as bold as possible.” Interestingly the video does give you this odd sense of wanting to be there with the cool kids, rockin expressive moves and bonding amongst the roaming lights.
