Live Review: FREE DOWNLOAD: Tame Impala 'Apocalypse Dreams'

10 July 2012 | 3:00 pm | Hannah Story

Tame Impala have released a track for your listening pleasure. Get your psych on and get pumped for their appearance at Splendour this month!

We've been waiting since 2010 for TAME IMPALA to release a follow-up to the mighty successful Innerspeaker. Although some of the band have been keeping themselves busy with Pond (live review HERE), we just can't help but want some news from our favourite Perth psychedelic band. Especially when Splendour in the Grass is just around the corner.

It appears that the band are taking on synth in their sophomore album. 'Apocalypse Dreams' is our taster: a piece of psych-out bliss. What does that mean? Sudden tempo switches, Kevin Parker's signature high vocals, a smattering of keys and synth, and all the dreamy sequences you've come to expect and adore.

This track shows the group experimenting with style and pushing the genre's boundaries. Consider their "sonic palette" expanded. Although it doesn't stray too far from their origins, 'Apocalypse Dreams' allows for the growth you can only expect from a band who've kept quiet for almost two whole years. Play it again.

Now to kill some time before the next release you might want to check out Swedish group, Dungen, one of Parker's many influences. Their sound is actually unbelievably similar and real cool.
