Live Review: Tour Announcement: The Rubens

11 August 2012 | 3:00 pm | Hannah Galvin

The Rubens have an album coming out produced by Grammy Award winner David Kahne, to support they'll be heading out on tour.

As a follow up to radio favourite, 'Don't Ever Want To Be Found', THE RUBENS continue to impress their huge fanbase with 'My Gun', as well as announcing a tour in support of a soon to be released album full of new tracks.

Recorded in New York and produced by Grammy Award winner David Kahne (Paul McCartney, The Strokes), it's hard to believe that the band of brothers and close friend only formed The Rubens last year.

This track is a slow one, and it encompasses a whole series of emotion. You know how sometimes you'll listen to a song and barely pay attention to the lyrics because the instrumentation is so overpowering, everything else just becomes lost? Well that doesn't happen here. Frontman Sam Margin expresses a solemn attitude as he delivers the tainted tale regarding a couple in despair.

His vocals are executed with effortless beauty and are quite dominate compared to the moderate beat that supports him for the entirety of the track. The soulful vibe is strengthened through the guitar as it releases wails of blues throughout the song. Upon listening, you'll find that 'My Gun' is clearly a track that has been carefully thought out during the songwriting process.

The debut single will feature on the anticipated self titled album released next month. To celebrate, The Rubens have announced a huge national tour (supported by Bertie Blackman for most shows) starting in September and extending until mid October. Having sold out all Sydney and Melbourne gigs for their national tour in 2011 and their Don't Ever Want To Be Found Tour earlier this year, it would be wise to get tickets as soon as you can. After all, good things come in threes!
