Live Review: LISTEN: Hot Chip 'How Do You Do' (Todd Terje Remix)

There are many things I would like to thank Great Britain for: THE ARCTIC MONKEYS, The Mighty Boosh, discovering Australia so I could be born here and of course HOT CHIP. I’ve always thought of HOT CHIP as quite an eccentric band.

Their music videos always seem to include something completely ludacris such as ‘Ready For The Floor’ from the band’s 2008 LP Made In The Dark. In this clip lead singer Alexis Taylor switches from his, uh regular attire (which is usually a little outrageous anyway), into the Joker from Batman. At one stage he is even dressed in half of each! Why you ask? I don’t know, because he can.

HOT CHIP have released a total of five studio albums including their newest release In Our Heads and a standout single from the album is the bouncy track ‘How Do You Do’. Now the film clip for this video isn’t exactly outrageous, but that’s not what we’re here to talk about. It’s not dammit!! ‘How Do You Do’ is only one of the various tracks from In Our Heads that has been greatly remixed.

‘How Do You Do’ originally is a sort of mash-up between the electronic and pop genres. Electronic elements are present with cool synths, and the pop element breaks through with a sweet melody and catchy lyrics. The track is one of the bands more universal songs, and the remix turns four minutes of catchy music, into nine.

TODD TERJE is the man behind the magic, and with his disco-house flavor added to HOT CHIP’s single, TODD TERJE has created a remix well worth listening to in its entirety. With a soft house intro, the song wades in before elegantly slipping into the core of the track.

The lyrics aren’t highlighted until the almost tropical-sounding bridge midway through, but this remix hardly needs them. TODD TERJE has turned ‘How Do You Do’ into a relaxed house track that’s worth every penny.
