Hullo peeps!! Today is a big day in Purple Sneakers town. We are putting sumthin new and positive out there. We're starting a singles label!!

I got no freakin idea how it will be received, but one thing's for sure - this is the beginning of a new journey for us and we want YOU who so loyally partakes in our community, who goes to our clubs, reads the newsletters and checks the blog every week, to be the first to get on this shit!!

Below is a press release that our lovely PR people Mel and Mon will be sending out later today. But you can skip the words and head straight to the good shit. There's a link to the first single by Purple Sneakers DJs, it's yours free to download, share and do whatever you want with. There'e also a remix package to stream, which will be released worldwide through our pals in New York, Plant Music. And there is also a video that our buddy Luke made about the journey of how Purple Sneakers got to where it is now.

Oh yeah and there are some dates for a national tour where you can come and get gnarly with Randall and I as we party across the country. Dayum!!

Before that I just wanted to thank every person who's worked on this with us recently. There are some pretty awesome humans involved in Purple Sneakers. All the peeps we work with who run our clubs and manage the blog... Dudes like Petchey, Gabe and Duncan. Randall who I make music and tour with. Ben and Jaddan my business partners and their team. Our patient and loving agents Rob and Casey. All our club promoters, DJs and blog contributors. And all the awesome dudes and dudettes who have worked at Purple Sneakers over the years. So many raddd humans!!!

And finally, I'm not together enough to have ever written a mission statement but if there were one overarching idea or statement for Purple Sneakers it would say something like this "I/we love music. Especially new music. And especially new music that can be played in clubs. Let's Make raddd shit happen!!!". And so we started a little label to help creative peeps put new music into the world...

Thanks for reading. Now get on that shit!!!

Mega love. <3 <3

Martin.

The name Purple Sneakers may mean something to you.  Purple is a rad colour, sneakers are comfortable walking attire and then there are those guys that started one of the biggest indie club nights in Sydney in 2005.

Purveyors of partying, Purple Sneakers grew up, graduated from The Abercrombie Hotel moving on to become a buzzing nationwide community, clad with a boisterous blog, throwing parties across the country, releasing compilations, and hosting bands and DJs big and small.

Purple Sneakers is the brainchild of Sydney-based renaissance man Martin Novosel (aka PhDJ). Backed by a rad team of real music people the company’s involvement with new music over the years has been nothing short of super tight. Having hosted internationals like Star Slinger, Kele, Kisses, Gigamesh, MNDR and Odd Future (DJ set) on their first tours, as well as the cream of the current generation of hot local acts – we’re talking acts like The Rubens, Kimbra, Flume, Alpine, DZ Deathrays, Jezabels, Bleeding Knees (all waaaay before they were household names).

Add to this the fact that Martin also has a background in A&R and artist management (Clubfeet, Sparkadia, Philadelphia Grand Jury) it just made sense that the next logical step for Purple Sneakers was to start a singles label.

In the near future there will be other signings, but what better way to kick start the label immediately than by releasing the very first original track by the Purple Sneakers DJs...

Purple Sneakers DJs have been gradually building a reputation as one of Australia's highest profile song-based (indie) DJs. This inappropriate duo is the union of PhDJ (the one with the hat) and Randall Stagg (the one with the hair).

Together they have supported the likes of Miike Snow, Sleigh Bells, Bloc Party and The Rapture as well as invited to warm up dance floors at festivals such as Big Day Out, Parklife, Field Day and Splendour In The Grass.

After releasing the popular 'We Mix You Dance' series of compilations as well as preparing re-rubs for acts so varied as French electro belle Yelle, White Arrows (USA), Oh Mercy, Jinja Safari and Architecture in Helsinki, Purple Sneakers DJs now turn their attention to original production.

In true Purple Sneakers style, collaboration is the key for ‘Last One Standing’. Featuring the compelling vocals of Amy Pes from Sydney indie outfit Tokyo Denmark Sweden, the track occupies a space somewhere between the homespun reverb-laden 'indie synth-pop' styling of Grimes, and the blatant all out 'hands in the air' club vibes of DJ/Producers like RAC and Gigamesh.

In a nice doff of the cap to the boys' production chops, the first single ‘Last One Standing’ will be released worldwide on 18th of October through New York specialist dance label Plant Music - home to acts like Whatever Whatever, Eli Escobar, Clubfeet, The Aston Shuffle etc - and locally through the newly-formed Purple Sneakers label.

The full single package also features a summery disco house remix by Toronto guy Jeremy Glenn, and a deep main room mix by NYC house producer DJ Wool.

To celebrate the launch of their new label and bangin‘ new tune, Purple Sneakers are giving away the single for FREE from (link).  The duo will also be heading to a venue near you this October and November.  Better get your skates sneakers on.
