Live Review: LISTEN: Liars 'Brats' (Cadence Weapon Remix)

Three piece dance group LIARS are known to not hold back from combining different genres into their music. After releasing their sixth album WIXIW (pronounced as 'wish you'), we are presented with an edgy, electronic record.

Their track 'Brats' from the new record is obviously known as a dancey one, yet kind of dark and almost rock-like through the lyrics. With this theme of the song kept in mind, listen to Canadian hip hop artist CADENCE WEAPON's remix for a completely new perspective.

It's ear-piercing intro starts off in such an odd way, you'd never expect the track to go where it takes you. The distorted vocals of Liars are still in tact, however pretty much everything else has been stripped and replaced with a bunch of synthetic layers, not to mention a chant-like sound working as one of these layers.

Once the track slows down, you're startled to hear rap incorporated in what was once a Liars track. Cadence Weapon rocks this to make it his own. At this point of the track, he's backed up with a consistent beat identical to that of handclaps. It's jumpy, different and quite a busy track.

The mix is to feature on the 'Brats' single, available on both 12” vinyl and as a digital download on 16^th October via Mute Records. Expect to also hear 'Brats' remixed by Vessel and David Scott Stone.
