As we wait for the announcement of his debut album, Chet Faker has just released his three-track Live Sessions EP, available as a free download!

CHET FAKER

Not sure if you're aware, but Melbourne dude CHET FAKER (also known as Nick Murphy outside of the industry) is in the process of recording his debut album.

While we're patiently awaiting the inevitable soul-infused, electronic masterpiece, all we've had to listen to in between is his sublime Thinking In Textures EP and YouTube videos. So with joy and glee we can now add to that as he's just released his Live Sessions EP!

Recorded in Newstead - an old regional town in Victoria, Faker and his band buddies set themselves up in an old Butter Factory and had a jam, recording a reinterpretation of UK producer Burial's 'Archangel', followed by Thinking In Textures'Love And Feeling' and 'No Diggity'.

Maybe for the first part, but as Faker's rendition of 'Archangel' progresses, the cover really holds the illusion that this is a much slower version of the original track. This is due to the swapped instrumentation, such as the drum kit substituting the initial electronic drum pad.

The eeriness of the original has been swapped for a soul-infused vibe found in Faker's strong, identifiable vocals, as well as the heave of the guitars, keys and percussion that so blissfully break the silence. Faker and his live band have definitely unmasked a new genre that this song never fell under before.

Compared to the original recording, 'Love And Feeling' is toned down a notch in the Live Sessions EP. Still obviously heading in the same musical direction, this live version places a bigger focus on the vocals of the track. The flair of 'Love And Feeling' here invites you to get up and have a good ol' fashioned slow dance with your favie babe.

Very much like 'Love And Feeling', 'No Diggity' also evokes a more chilled out vibe opposed to the original. Though in saying that, it warrants more of an edge as opposed to its predecessor.

Being the third and final track, we're completely in tune with the flow of this EP. As a result of listening, it's quite clear that the acoustics of this ex-Butter Factory really complement the sound coming from the instruments used in the recordings, and have left this Live Sessions EP with quite a jazzy feel.
