LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT: Lollapalooza

2 April 2013 | 3:00 pm | Hannah Galvin

A little ahead of the planned announcement day, the Lollapalooza lineup has been leaked! It's insane.

Here in Australia, we're well on our way to finding out who is to play our favourite Winter festival, Splendour In The Grass. Having said that though, it's also the time of year to be finding out who is playing the following week on the other side of the world - the spectacularly huge LOLLAPALOOZA FESTIVAL.

Starting in 1991, the festival was put together by Jane's Addiction lead singer Penny Farrell, as he wanted a "larger-than-life musical roadshow, combining music, culture and fans all over the continent" which was a little tricky to establish back in those days considering the lack of Internet. Ever since, the festival's been a complete hit, with fans worldwide (including all of us here) wanting to get to the gigantic festival based in Chicago's Grant Park.

With the original announcement date the 9th of April, the lineup has just been leaked, as the huge names are painted in a very teasing orange colour (any colour would be teasing, but still) on the website's humongous scroll.

So who is to play? An absolute shitload of talent from all over the world, spanning from different eras of music.

I started writing some of the lineup's standouts, though I literally had down about 90% of the bands and artists listed. So instead, let's break it down.

Some legends have made the list, such as The CureThe Postal Service and New Order. All influential bands of their time, this is an example of the festival's huge mix of talent, considering that PhoenixQueens Of The Stone AgeVampire WeekendThe LumineersKendrick LamarSteve AokiGrizzly BearBand Of HorsesAzealia BanksLocal NativesMajor LazerAlt-JLana Del RayBen HowardDisclosureWavves, Unknown Mortal Orchestra are all playing too.

And yeah, I guess I ended up going overboard with the names afterall, but there is seriously so much amazing talent on that lineup, it's kind of hard to cull down who is and isn't worthy of mentioning!

The festival will be held over three days - from the 2nd till the 4th of August at Grant Park in Chicago. Three day passes are already sold out!

You can check out the entire lineup HERE. Probably best not to check out your bank account though, unless you're a Kardashian or something.

Ps. Did you know a Lollapalooza is an impressive and attractive person/thing? Makes sense..
