Splendour In The Grass 2013 Sold Out + Sideshow Announcements

2 May 2013 | 5:27 pm | Hannah Galvin

Splendour In The Grass has already sold out for this year! How did you find the ticketing system?

Splendour

For some, today was a b-e-a-utiful day, for others, it may as well have been their last. Why so extreme? Because May the 2nd, 2013 is the date marked in everyone's physical and mental calendars as the day SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS tickets go on sale!

With the lineup announced just a week ago featuring Mumford and SonsThe National and TV On The Radio's only Australian shows, Polyphonic Spree performing the Rocky Horror Picture ShowYou Am I performing their first two albums and a whole bunch of other amazing talents such as James Blake, Cloud ControlJake Bugg and The Drones, it was always going to be a shit fight trying to obtain a ticket or four for you and your funnest festival buddies.

With only 25,000 tickets up for grabs for the huge Australian music culture population, it was no doubt that a lot of people were to miss out on the weekend that could very well have been one of their greatest memories ever. Having said that though, 25,000 people make up a pretty damn big party; so much so that it's a real surprise when you eventually find Wally at every favourite festival. (Or is it..)

Where's Wally

Whether they were three day tickets, single day admission or camping tickets, all of these types of standard event passes were gone just over half an hour after they were available on Moshtix this morning.

Being put through the site's "Green Room", we sat and waited as a lime green chair stared into our soul, laughing at our lack of accessibility to its secret underground lair. In other words, you had to wait a really, really long time in the queue in order to purchase the goods. I still think the guys were just testing our patience.

So how did we all go?

Personally, I had my laptop, my sister's laptop and a friend with his laptop all going, constantly checking the Moshtix and Splendour Facebook pages to see if there were any comments on crashes or better links to use as people miraculously have tended to find in previous years. Occasionally sifting through the swarm of complaints, I also had my phone in action calling Moshtix, but failed on every dial. Buying tickets for this event is ridiculously overwhelming.

Eventually getting through on the computer, my buddy had already made the purchase by this point and we were hip hip hooraying!

A pretty spectacular win, I still managed to see a bunch of people word vomiting their hate for Moshtix and how the event organisers are really just event disorganisers.

To be fair, I wouldn't tease the teary eyes of the unsuccessful Splendour punters. Having said that though, the Internet can only take so much, and I think pointing the finger at these music dudes for not being to certain peoples standards is a little over the top. You have to understand that tens of thousands of people [who want the same thing as you do] are contributing to the site's overheating. Trust me, they did a lot better than 2010, where I waited in the virtual queue for a total of four hours.

After all of the general tickets had replaced the money of each punter's bank account, all that was left were the $699 Country Club tickets.

By 11 o'clock, these had too sold out, and Splendour popped open the champers for their forthcoming house warming party for their new residence at North Byron Parklands.

A pretty stressful morning, congratulations to those who scored tickets and fingers crossed for a resale and sideshows to those not so lucky!

LATE BREAKING: TheMusic.com.au have revealed that main attractions Haim, Babyshambles, James Blake, Jake Bugg, Everything Everything and Fidlar will all be playing Australian Splendour In The Grass shows. No cities, venues or dates are confirmed but should serve to dull the pain of missing out on tickets.
