Live Review: LISTEN: Mr Oizo 'Secam'

To celebrate Ed Banger Records' 10th birthday, the label have put together their very own compilation titled Ed Rec, Vol. X. The compilation acts as a physical product of the pride and joy of the label, as it features fourteen tracks by thirteen of its artists.

With appearances by Cassius, Breakbot, SebastiAn and the label man himself Busy P, it's definitely an album to add to the collection of any Ed Bangers fan. One artist we particularly love on the release is MR OIZO. The only artist to feature twice on Ed Rec, Vol. X, he opens up the album with 'Intro X', announcing each artist in a manipulated voice.

After this important introduction, Mr Oizo greets us for round two at the entrance of the compilation's second half with 'Secam'.

From the very first beat, this track comes across as an extremely powerful anthem. Stomping through the song with heavy boots, the bass heightens the energy and impact of 'Secam'. Add the opposing pitches performing the same tune as one another and suddenly the track is experiencing an internal dance-off.

Just when you thought the track couldn't get any bigger, Mr. Oizo plays with even more patterns almost until the very end of the song. Thirty seconds prior to the close of, we live the strong and steady comedown of 'Secam', allowing us crucial time to regain our energy for Ed Rec, Vol. X's following track.
