26 July 2013 | 12:00 am | Tom Hutchins

Sarah Neufeld (of Arcade Fire) in the brink of releasing a debut solo album AND we have a taste of the new album track right here right now.

Sarah-Neufeld

Heard of SARAH NEUFELD yet? Well you bloody should have, she plays the violin for one of worlds biggest bands, Arcade Fire, for gods sake.

But why are we talking about her, specifically? Because she is on the brink of releasing a debut solo album AND we have a taste of the new album track right here right now. Along with all the album deets you need, of course.

Neufeld's latest single, 'Forcelessness', is the 2nd track to be released from the LP, Hero Brother, and is an exhilarating expreience. It features Neufeld as well as the album's producer, Nils Frahm, who compliments the track on piano.

It's first play came through NPR's, All Songs Considered, in which Robin Hilton described it as a "gorgeous record" and praised Sarah's mastery. Hilton states...

"she allows a lot of incidental sounds to work their way into the pallet of the soundscapes of the recordings when it seems like it's just a violin played solo, but there's so many ambient sounds going on in the background that sort of trickle in that it completely changes the feel and the vibe of the music."

And considering we haven't had a chance to hear the album for ourselves (yet), we're pretty stoked to be hearing those words come from such an esteemed critic.

Based in Montréal, Neufeld is an extremely busy person, obviously she's best known for Arcade Fire, but she's also a founding member of the acclaimed contemporary instrumental ensemble Bell Orchestre and has performed and recorded with many other groups, including The Luyas, Esmerine and Little Scream. So it's not surprising that Hero Brother is a long time coming, as the Canadian has been working on solo material for around 3 years solidly.

Now for the details..

The album was recorded in Berlin by pianist and producer Nils Frahm, with Neufeld's performances captured in a number of locations with site-specific acoustics, including an abandoned geodesic dome, an underground parking garage, and the legendary Studio P4 Orchestral Recording Hall at the broadcast complex of the former GDR.
