SOUNDCLOUD WRAP: Light Year
For this week’s SOUNDCLOUD WRAP we enlisted the help of MOTORIK techno star LIGHT YEAR. In 2013 he’s had a handful of awesome releases and a killer remix for the new FLIGHT FACILITIES single ‘I Didn’t Believe’ featuring the gorgeous vocals of ELIZABETH ROSE.
Aside from being set to perform at next year’s HOLY SHIP festival alongside Skrillex, Diplo, Disclosure, Baauer, and Boys Noize; he’s currently travelling the country for a short tour that will include a stop at this weekend’s SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS event.
LIGHT YEAR breaks down his 10 favourite tracks of the moment for us and provides a brief description for each track. Let’s get into it shall we??
FOUR TET ‘For These Times’
I have been getting into Four Tet a lot recently. I love how he uses vocals and this one is a real solid rolling groove.
BODDIKA & JOY ORBISON ‘&Fate’
This UK techno/warehouse sound is so sick, once again their use of vocal samples is dope.
FLIGHT FACILITIES ‘I Didn’t Believe’ (LIGHT YEAR Remix)
One of my favourite remixes i’ve done and works really well when i play it.
DJ KOZE ft. APPARAT ‘Nices Wolkchen’
I saw him play recently while in London and this one was huge.
One of the new ones off his most recent album on Kompakt. Nothing he hasn’t done before but still super cool.
Huge fan of Bibio and this is my fav off his latest album on Warp
CAJMERE & SONNY FODERA ‘CO2 Vapour’
CAJMERE/GREEN VELVET is a big influence on me and this track is killer.
SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO & BICEP ‘Sacrifice’
Great collaboration, i wasn’t sure what to expect when i first heard this but i love that arp that plays throughout, super epic.
MOTOR CITY DRUM ENSEMBLE ‘Send a Prayer Pt. 1’
I love the texture of MCDE records and this sounds so dusty and raw.
LANDO KAL ‘Let You in the Sky’
Some jackin Berlin techno, the bending chords are sick.
