TOP FIVES: Splendour In The Grass 2013 Acts

11 July 2013 | 5:36 pm | Hannah Galvin

With all of this essential information in our hands, we've started to sort out who we're sacrificing to see for other Splendour In The Grass acts.

SITG 2

With 2013's Splendour Bender to kick off in just over a fortnight, we've been given the set times for the three main stages just this week! With all of this essential information in our hands, we've started to sort out who we're sacrificing to see for other Splendour In The Grass acts.

So in saying that, we've put together a Top Fives article on who our top picks are! Trying to mix it up a little in terms of genre, we're simply ridiculously excited to just get to North Byron Parklands at the end of this month.

So, do you lucky ticket holders agree? Drop us a line!

FIDLAR

We could sit here all day and discuss why the headlining acts are so wondrous and such, but what about all of our musical buddies who will be playing before the sun is swapped for our luminous moon? One of these bands is Fidlar, and they're sure to leave you bruised and hair-pulled by the end of their Sunday afternoon set! Not only is their name an acronym for “Fuck It Dog, Life's A Risk”, it will also be their very first Australian visit! So get down and party with the cheap beer drinking dudes. #YOLO #FIDLAR

FRANK OCEAN

Playing his first ever Australian headline show, we're incredibly pumped to catch Frank Ocean live. Let's be honest, what other reason is there besides Channel Orange?

JAMES BLAKE

I don't think James Blake needs too much of an explanation as to why it would be criminal to skip his SITG set. He very quickly saw his Australian album launch shows sell out for his last visit, bears the voice of an angel and is amazing enough to be playing Sydney's Opera House on the following Tuesday to ease your post Splendour blues. He's also mega babe'n, so there.

THE NATIONAL

We're big fans of The National here at Purple Sneakers HQ, so we're super stoked for the band's set at SITG! After frontman Matt Berninger let it slip to Triple J that they'd be playing before the lineup was even announced, how could we not thank them for semi-calming our Splendour anticipation by going to watch them play? Soon to release their fifth studio LP Trouble Will Find Me, we'll be treated with one of the first tastes of the forthcoming album live! It's also their only Australian show, so you'd be a daft fan to miss it.

YOU AM I

Our community is named after one of You Am I's tracks that can be found on their third record Hi Fi Way – an album they'll be playing in full for their Sunday at SITG. Also performing Sound As Ever and Hourly, Daily on the Friday night, the legends are celebrating the reissue of their first three records. So considering all of that, how could we not include them?

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:

POLYPHONIC SPREE PERFORMING ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW

Dude, as if their Splendour title doesn't say it all?

MYSTERY BAND??

Some are convinced it's Alt-J, others are praying for a Daft Punk miracle. Organisers say it's going to be really special, with the biggest clue shown on the festival's poster art. Whoever it may be, we're intrigued enough by all the suspense to head along!

JAGWAR MA

After having to postpone shows on their last Australian tour, over very own Jagwar Ma are back on the road, determined to spoil us with Howlin's live experience!

THE GROWL

What do you get when you combine PondTame Impala and Allbrook/AveryThe Growl. Catch them on Sunday open the Supertop at 12:30!

OTHER STAGES

Don't just stick to the three main stages, go check out some sets from a bunch of our buddies at the Smirnoff Cocktail Bar and the Red Bull Music Academy stage. They won't let you down!
