Live Review: LISTEN: Yacht 'Party at the NSA'

19 August 2013 | 12:00 am | Lauren Payne

Yacht have released a big new track that aims at the U.S government and their controversial policies.

Back in May, YACHT graced us with their presence at Groovin' the Moo and I distinctly remember their show being wonderfully big. The huge light show, the energetic dancing from both the crowd and the band and of course the position switching, showing the audience that basically every member of YACHT can play almost every instrument on that stage.

I also remember my friends having their minds blown by this show, they hadn't seen or heard the band before, but their performance at Groovin' converted them, which couldn't make me happier.

YACHT have a wonderful reputation for being experimental in the way that really none of their tracks sounds the same. You will get certain acts that have the same sound on every EP and album, and luckily this isn't one of those bands. The YACHT crew have been performing together for many years now and welcome everyone into their band stating "anyone can become a member of Yacht" on their Facebook page and the LA-based band have a new track to share with us all and may even convert your friends into becoming fans of YACHT, or a member if they feel so inclined.

'Party At The NSA', sounds reasonably generic, but really the track is anything but. The track is a punk-fuelled dance track that actually has a deeper meaning that needs to be expressed. You see, 'Party at the NSA' is actually a charity track where instead of just buying the single, you can donate to the download via the Party In The NSA site.

It's aimed at the U.S government's controversial means of research via the National Security Agency. The track itself is a ripper though, crunchy guitars, a riff that gets stuck in your head very quickly and lyrics that can punch you in the face if they really want to. It's a punchy track and YACHT bloody well nail it.
