Live Review: STREAM: Roland Tings 'Cagean Sea' (Maxmillion Dunbar Remix)

23 August 2013 | 11:56 pm | Lauren Payne

Australian producer Roland Tings gets his new b-side 'Cagean Sea' remixed by the wonderful Maxmillion Dunbar.

You know when you listen to something and you just aren't sure whether or not it's something you should continue to listen to or not?

Like a really weird conversation your fellow bus users are having, well ROLAND TINGS new b-side, that has been remixed by MAXMILLION DUNBAR, 'Cagean Sea' is a bit like that, however you're compelled to keep listening and are truthfully treated to a very unique mix of sounds that have their tropical beats all over them.

'Cagean Sea' is the b-side to ROLAND TINGS' single 'Tomita's Basement', which actually was recorded in Tomita's basement, and originally is very soft and fuzzy. It's synth track is just fluffy in every sense of the word and tends to blend together nicely making it just project a lovely sound.

The Australian producer however has passed on the reigns of 'Cagean Sea' to Washington DC's electronic man MAXMILLION DUNBAR who has made a quick remix that sounds quite aggressive when placed next to the original mix. The similarities of both mixes tend to surround the sunny, tropical edge that you hear in the sunbeam synths that trickle throughout 'Cagean Sea'. A bit of clattered percussion is thrown in as well added in with some droopy synths that bounce in and out of the track, the remix is truly a unique work and I haven't heard anything like it in a very long time.
