TOP FIVES: Big Day Out 2014 Acts

1 August 2013 | 10:55 am | Lauren Payne

We pin point the acts you should definitely stop by at Big Day Out in 2014.

It's that time of the year again, one of Australia's most seasoned festivals, Big Day Out has released the line-up for its 2014 tour. There has been speculation floating around for a while as to who would be put on the line-up as we were all told by founder of the festival Ken West, that there will be three headliners this year instead of two.

Next thing we know Sydney's schedule is spread across two days, and soon the names of some headlining acts were thrown around the ball park.

Now it is finalised and we can safely say that grunge legends PEARL JAM, British rockers BLUR, and collective grouping ARCADE FIRE, will all be headlining the event. SNOOP LION is also on the bill, along with THE LUMINEERS, TAME IMPALA, DIIV, THE NAKED AND FAMOUS, MUDHONEY, LOON LAKE and plenty of other great acts. But of course with a huge music festival like this comes some clashes, but we all have out Top 5 acts that we want to go and check out, so what are the ones we recommend stopping by at? Well let me show you..

TORO Y MOI

This genius is getting ready to begin a fun US tour with dance duo CLASSIXX and if you haven't heard any of his tracks yet, then get on it. His electronic vibes are calm and smooth, chillwave is most definitely his forte and we thank him for owning this wonderful genre. TORO Y MOI's most recent album Anything In Return is a mix of chillwave infused with some heavy bass and light vocals, to hear this set live is something everyone should witness and luckily Big Day Out have given us the chance to do it.

MAJOR LAZER

MAJOR LAZER no doubt has a huge arsenal of tracks ready for us and with their expertise lying in pretty much every corner of electronic music, there's no doubt that they'll put on a fantastic, sweaty show.

PORTUGAL. THE MAN

We had a chat to PORTUGAL. THE MAN not too long ago and we had no clue that they were venturing down our way to play Big Day Out, then again they probably didn't even know at the time.

The boys accidentally let their appearance slip a few hours early revealing a poster of themselves with the Big Day Out 2014 logo hanging idly above them, but so what if they ruined the surprise? These guys are bound to put on a great show anyway, with those high vocals and steady beats the boys of PORTUGAL. THE MAN are definitely one band you should pencil in for Big Day Out.

DILLON FRANCIS

This boy has been making waves for the past couple of years and his recent collaboration with Orlando Higginbottom aka TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS has certainly added to his buzz.

DILLON FRANCIS has a knack for making those synths scream whilst the bass just struts on through his tracks, he's one to watch and the fact he is playing Big Day Out definitely proves that.

RUFUS

Now here is someone we didn't really expect to be on this year's line up, but are glad they are all the same. Our buddies RUFUS have been so excited to release their debut album Atlas and have been hard at work teasing us with song clips and mini-documentaries, so this announcement has really just put the icing on the cake.

RUFUS now definitely have a lot of touring ahead with their own headline tour happening through September and October, an appearance it the new Listen Out festival as well and if you're unfortunately not around when these boys touch down in your town, well Big Day Out is the day (or days for Sydney) to do it.
