Live Review: LISTEN: Movement 'Us' + Video

22 September 2013 | 8:34 pm | Lauren Payne

Sydney trio Movement have come back with a brooding new track and a haunting music video.

The first single 'Feel Real' from Modular act MOVEMENT showed everyone what the band were made of with some sultry lyrics and smooth bass lines complementing synths hovering quietly above.

MOVEMENT have been a bit quiet since releasing 'Feel Real' and now we know why because the trio have just released another single 'Us' and an accompanying music video. The track itself is quite dark; unfortunately not as sexy as 'Feel Real', but of course that's not a bad thing. It delves down into something a lot more meaningful, just brooding and bubbling as it creeps on. The synths stay quite subtle and quieter, really 'Us' is just a very quiet track in general, the drum beat is quite light and everything is just very turned down.

MOVEMENT's music video for us is actually quite cinematic compared to some other videos we've seen recently. Focused on a small gang, the video begins with one man discovering a friends mural on a wire fence near a quarry. It's a pretty dramatic scene and the track hasn't even fully started yet. The guy travels to a friends house to find a bunch of his friends sitting around drinking and what not and tells, I'm guessing the leader, about the mural he saw.

The video kind of reminds you of some of the more dramatic movies you may have seen in the early 2000's like Crash. The guy is soon being beaten by his so called "friends" and that's really when the whole thing just gets really dark. A dark video for a dark tune, director Dave Ma has really captured something somewhat evil for MOVEMENT's latest track.

'Us' has been released through Modular today, with some pretty rad remixes from GIRAFFAGE and KOWTON accompanying the track. A debut album is no doubt on the way, but I think MOVEMENT  are the kind of band who like to take things slow and really perfect a mood, like they've done here.
