Top Five Picks For Laneway Festival 2014

3 January 2014 | 12:01 am | Lauren Payne

We select our artists to see at St Jerome's Laneway Festival in 2014 so it's a little bit of an easier choice for you.

It's summer, all of your favourite events are beginning to unfold here in Australia and we couldn't be more excited for this festival season.

We have seen some pretty spectacular acts booked so far for Field Day, Let Them Eat Cake, Big Day Out and The Plot but one festival that seems to have caught our eye is 2014's St Jerome's Laneway Festival. 2014 sees huge international acts landing on our shores for a day of fun-filled, music-fuelled greatness.

With HAIM performing alongside DRENGE, KING KRULE, FOUR TET and many others, how the hell are we supposed to pick which acts to go and see?? Never fear, Purple Sneakers is here with our Top Five acts to see at Laneway in 2014 so that you don't rack your brains too much before the big day!

DANNY BROWN

Seeing DANNY BROWN live is one of those bucket list things you just have to do, like trying escargot (snails, not the pastry) at least once.

'Dip' is one of the most danceable and energetic songs to come out in 2013, it's inevitable that the crowd at his performance will this track drops. If you've seen any of DANNY BROWN's music videos as well you would have seen how much energy that man has...

CASHMERE CAT

This shy Norwegian man of mystery, will be gracing our shores next year and what a great set his will be. With twinkling synths from his track 'Pearls' and the relaxed piano melody / stomping percussion of 'Mirror Maru', CASHMERE CAT has a talent for turning intricate melodies into wonderful dance tracks and his performances will no doubt be magical.

A mix of R'n'B, pop and smooth club mentality makes every track CASHMERE CAT produces just beautiful.

UNKOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA

For a little something different, why not go and check out UNKOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA in all of their glory? The band have been quietly building up their back catalogue in 2013, releasing their second album II and the Deluxe Edition of the album not too long afterwards.

The experimental tracks of UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA may not be for everyone, but for open-minded punters who do like something chilled-out with psychedelic guitars and sweet vocals, then this is the band you need to see.

CLOUD CONTROL

Something for the indie-rockers in us all, CLOUD CONTROL will be a hell of a lot of fun for pretty much everyone. The band have been releasing some pretty sweet tracks over the past couple of months, not to mention an incredibly cool yet haunting, film clip for their track 'Dojo Rising'.

A great live act, CLOUD CONTROL will definitely be one to enjoy and you'll no doubt want to see them again and again if this will be you're first experience. I suggest learning the words to 'Dojo Rising' as soon as you can, a sing-a-long is bound to ensue as those first chords are played.

SCENIC

A lesser known act on the Laneway bill for 2014, SCENIC only recently became members of the prestigious Future Classic family and for good reason. The band have wonderfully soft dance tracks that take into a world where summer never leaves...
