Live Review: LISTEN: Duck Sauce 'NRG' (Hudson Mohawke Remix)

8 April 2014 | 5:55 pm | Hannah Galvin

Hudson Mohawke has remixed Duck Sauce's new track 'NRG'; the original of which is to feature on their forthcoming Quack LP.

New Yorkers DUCK SAUCE (made up of A-Trak and Armand Van Helden) are gearing up to release their Quack LP in just over a weeks time. In the lead up to the event, they've dropped a tight remix EP for one of the new tracks, 'NRG', that includes a rework from Scottish producer HUDSON MOHAWKE.

From what we already know, Duck Sauce's 'NRG' certainly isn't afraid to punch you square in the face with its large, exuberant fist. Functioning a loud, fierce and productive nature, the song's extroverted personality vacates to the limelight from the get go. However, the instrumentation of Hudson Mohawke's rendition requires a little bit of confidence to step outside of its shell.

Almost like embarrassing a child by catching them doing something when they think nobody is watching them, we listen to a coy melody line entertain itself, yet simultaneously hurry into repetition as the electricity of 'NRG's vocals and certain elements creep into the sonic realm. Eventually graduating from the acquaintance level into a healthy friendship, Mohawke's contribution to 'NRG' marries up perfectly with both fresh and original factors of the song; screening an intense array of rich, busy synths before entirely seeing itself out with the fluffy melody line that has remained consistent from the start of the remix.
