Live Review: dOP 'Close Up' (Louisahhh!!! Remix)

20 May 2014 | 8:04 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Taking on DOP’s track ‘Close Up’, LOUISAHHH!!! has added an entirely new atmospheric sweep and a new vocal line, justifiably making the track her own.

Music’s always been a thing for LA resident, Louisa Pillot AKA LOUISAHHH!!!. She began her musical prowess in NYC at an early age, before moving on to DJing at age 17.

She’s been prominently recognised for her tendency to hone in on a style that showcases the tenderness of house music, whilst maintaining an integral toughness within her sound.

Her 2014 2-track release with fellow BROMANCER, MAELSTROM entitled ‘Traces’ saw a deep house thriller, accentuated by dark synths and the vocals of LOUISAHHH!!! herself. Her latest effort sees her dark touches all over it. Taking on DOP’s track ‘Close Up’, LOUISAHHH!!! has reinvented it to suit her own.

Adding an entirely new atmospheric sweep-through, as well as a new vocal line, she’s justifiably made the track her own. What remains of DOP’s original track is the elemental chord structure, evident in the structure of both versions of the track. There’s a certain melancholy to LOUISAHHH!!!’s version that brings out an entirely new level within the depths of the track.

Ultimately, LOUISAHHH!!!’s done what not many artists really dare to do, and that’s entirely reinventing and revamping a track to make it as close to a new kind of original as possible.
