Live Review: New Navy 'Heaven'

31 May 2014 | 12:00 am | Lauren Payne

New navy have risen again and brought with them a brand new track called 'Heaven'.

It may have been a while since we've heard anything from NEW NAVY, but luckily today we've been presented with some new material so we can fall in love with the trio all over again. The last time we heard from NEW NAVY they were being remixed by VAMPIRE WEEKEND' s Chris Baio under his electronic moniker, BAIO.

There have been stories of some bands just fading away after a certain album but once you hear this new track, you'll know for sure that NEW NAVY will be sticking around for a good long while.

The new track the trio have released is called 'Heaven' and the track definitely lives up to it's name. The five-minute long piece just feels soothing as the melody floats on through with a very light drum beat following it closely. This is a track that you would definitely use to describe heaven is you ever really had to. The piece sounds light and pure and also warm, reminding you of the relaxing summer days in the sun. The are a lot of situations this track makes you think of and the mix of memories just make it's affect on you even more special.

'Heaven' uses a lot of unique samples and guitar patterns to create a sweet melody that just sounds relaxing and serene. The vocals have a fair bit of reverb behind them creating a very soft angel-like track which again, makes the track feel true to its name. There are a few electronic tracks that you can relax to these days but NEW NAVY have brought in a whole new element with 'Heaven'. As they do use a few subtle synth tracks, their distorted guitars create a humanity in the track making it sound more real and emotional. These dudes just know how to catch our attention.

No matter where you look, you won't be able to find too much information about anymore new releases from NEW NAVY in the near future, all we know is that they've been hard at work in the studio. So here's hoping that by the end of the year we'll have a new EP or album to get our hands on.
