Live Review: Pharrell 'Happy' (Kaytranada Edition)

14 May 2014 | 7:41 pm | Alean Penaflor

Kaytranda puts his smooth touches on Pharrell's 'Happy'.

Let's face it - 'Happy' has been used and abused to its absolute core over the summer. With its bright, cheery and easy-breezy vibes, it would've been an equal abomination not to. So it's been a welcome relief when this KAYTRANADA remix reached our ears and relieved PHARELL of his happy duty.

Whilst we may have a bit of a soft spot for the Canadian producer - having featured much of his originals such as 'At All' and remixes like BANKS' 'Waiting Game'  - his spin on the track just further fuels our adoration-fire.

KAYTRANADA maintains the key elements of the track's original vibe and Mr. Williams' vocals, although shinning light on a fresh new strutting bassline and ultimately turning up the song's overall swagger. With what the original had in its cheerful tones, KAYTRANADA's edition has in mischief and playful cheek.

Whilst on the topic of 'Happy' remixes,  COUSIN COLE joins the roster with his chilled, reggae stylistics. Don't worry, he acknowledges what we just spoke of up there, writing on his Soundcloud description 'I know by now you're all sick of being happy but still...'. Now we're just spoilt for choice.
